This headband doubles as a neck and ear warmer. I'm making it for my sister for Christmas. Unfortunately, I don't have any of that colored jersey (well I do, but it's very thin). So I used some periwinkle colored jersey.
Materials: jersey, scissors, needle and thread
I love that casual look about it. It's nice and soft. It keeps my ears warm.
***I have decided to give a basic how-to for those interested . The headband is very easy. It is a strip of 5.5" x (your head measurement) piece of jersey. Sew the ends together, and then sew a running/basting stitch along the seam. Pull to ruche, and go back over it with a line of stitching to keep it secure. The flowers are 1.5" x 5" strips with a running/basting stitch along one 5" edge. Pull tight to ruche into a circle shape and sew the ends together. Make another flower and sew along the seam of your headband.***
oh thats sooo cute :)
ReplyDeletewoow! have seen on pinterest. :) and came in here :)
ReplyDeleteI love this! Thanks for the algebraic directions. ;)
ReplyDeleteGreat tutorial! I included it in my roundup of fabulous and free headband tutorials and you can check it out here: http://darlingadventures.com/?p=470
ReplyDeleteOk, not to be a total Debbie Downer, but really? Did you contact the shop before using her photo in your tutorial? Did you even think twice before showing everyone else how to copy her design that she created for sale? I don't have a problem with you making it, or even writing a blog entry about it, but to do a tutorial when it's something she currently has for sale in her shop is just rude. You don't even include a link to her shop, in case someone would want to go there and buy one instead.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry if I have offended you in any way, but first of all: yes, I did not include a link to her shop. However, I did give credit to her store. I said you could find it on garlands of grace on Etsy. You can find that if you just type it into Google. Second, there are many seamstresses/artists who use other Etsy artists as inspiration. I know a certain famous (in the craft world) blog that attempts to figure out how to make things she finds on Etsy and gives a how-to on how she would make it. Thirdly, if you check on Etsy, I've seen many other headbands EXACTLY like this by other sellers. This is just one of the many styles/colors of headbands. If you have seen those loopy t-shirt strand scarves on Etsy, you would also find numerous tutorials on how to make it. Anyways, I’m very sorry to you and any others I have offended. I wish you emailed/contacted me on the issue so I could've said all of these things to you privately, but unfortunately you commented as anonymous. I will remove the tutorial, and I am sorry if I have upset anyone.
DeleteHi Nay, I'd like to offer some feedback re: this post. It's a shame that you felt that you had to remove your tutorial. While your Anonymous reader felt so compelled to admonish your behavior, like many others have noted here, you did nothing wrong and gave appropriate acknowledgement to the source of your inspiration. Don't allow yourself to be bullied on the internet or in life.

Well I, for one, am sorry that an anonymous reader ruined it for the rest of us! :( I was excited to find your tutorial, but now I will have to go searching for another one elsewhere. Anyway, the headband you made looks great! I love this style. I am thinking of making one for my baby girl. Newborns and headbands were just meant to go together!
ReplyDeleteyeah the anonymous reader did ruin it for us... but could we request you to email the tutorial instead?
DeleteI'd really love to make some of these for Christmas ;-)
Thanks
I agree with Jenna. Some of us are buyers, and the rest of us are diy'ers. If you are good at your craft you will always have buyers, and not have to worry about the diy'ers...they weren't going to buy anyway.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the above comments...someone that is going to buy is not going to make it and someone who is going to make it is not going to buy it! You did give credit where it was due and I agree with you about there being other tutorials for so many different things. I hate that there's not tutorial now! I was looking forward to it!
ReplyDeleteSeriously, It's not a crime to post a tutorial for a DIY. You see that everywhere now from hair bows, refinishing furniture (make your furniture look like Pottery Barn), recipes and even how to build a shelves, etc. All you need to do is totally take off the headband you saw on Etsy (that actually can be a problem with copywriting when using someone else's pictures without asking), Don't even name the store (because there are several people who make these). Just say that you have seen similar headbands to the one you made and then post YOUR HEADBAND and the tutorial. I would just do that from now. With that being said, PLEASE repost the tutorial and post the post like I mentioned above. If your still worried would you mind emailing me the tutorial (snowbabe81 at hotmail dot com), because like Jen said I am not one who will buy it and would rather make my own anyway ;0) Thanks and stay strong from anonymous posters. Your super talented and deserve credit for what you do and teach others to do.
ReplyDeleteI too would LOVE to have the tutorial. If you are not comfortable reposting it I would really appreciate it if you would email it to me. It is ridiculous that anonymous for compelled to post her comment!
ReplyDeleteSo I'm disappointed the tutorial got removed. Can you email it?
ReplyDeleteHi Nay, love your blog, could you email the tutorial?
ReplyDeleteSo bummed - I would love this tutorial! If you're willing to email it, I'd love it!
