Version Aye-Aye-Aye: Braided Headband Tutorial

Made another one. I like experimenting. Version aye-aye-aye--or, version III. 3, if you don't know Roman numerals. For this one, it's a double strand, and it seems to hold up my hair better, because there's a strand for the back and a strand to hold up the front. No elastic. Just some really stretchy jersey.

Sorry for the crummy photos. I use my ipod cam because it's convenient.

I used some 60" wide jersey. Cut 3 1/2" strips. So you have 3 strips that are 1/2" x 60." Tack the ends together with a few stitches or a safety pin and braid till you run out. Tack/safety pin the ends so it doesn't unravel. Now loop it around your head twice, stretching it tightly. Overlap the ends, and handsew where they all cross.

Now, using the excess braid, loop it around and pull through to make a loose knot. Repeat till there are 3-4 loose knots. Now pull the excess braid through the knots to the opposite side, and pull all the knots tight. Trim excess braid. You can tack it in place with a few stitches, if you wish, and you're done!

Three Things, plus 2 Others

Haven't shown you this, but I made it back in December when I was obsessed with ear warmers. Mustard bow... I love the color. CO 13 sts with size 10 needles. Original pattern here.

Ponytail tutorial:

This makes me laugh. I love Harry Potter. And have you seen the Hunger Games trailer? It looks sooo good! I hope it is; the only other time I've gotten this excited about a book/movie is Percy Jackson (which, to me, was a disappointment... maybe I'll do a rant on that someday...) and HP7. Actually, I'm sure I've been excited about other book/movies, but I can't remember any. (via)

So I went into the bathroom to text my mom because I'd forgotten my lunch (shhh!!!), and when I got there I locked myself in a stall. There were a couple people outside. When I came out of the stall, one girl was there. We both kinda stared at each other, and then (this just proves how awkward I can be)...

Me: If you're wondering why I didn't flush, it's because I didn't go.

Girl: ...what?

Me: I didn't want you to think I didn't flush or wash my hands.

Girl: Oh. Okay.

Me: Bye!

I'm serious; that's how it went.

Tutorial: How to Put Your Hair up with a Chopstick

Last week it was extremely hot. I felt like my face was melting off. Plus, one of my teacher's classrooms is extremely stuffy. He doesn't seem to like to open his windows, and his fan at the back--well, that's it. It's at the back. It's about 5 degrees hotter in his classroom than out in the hallway. Which is why I like to put my hair up in a bun to get it off my neck.

But a lot of the times I forget my hair tie. So I use my pen. This is usually how I do it--my first hair tutorial! Bear with me, please...

Oh, and this is for righties, so lefties can either switch the directions around or just try and use your right hand... I mean, being ambidextrous is pretty cool, right? Yes? No? well I think it is...

The end result will look like a little lump of hair on your head--sounds attractive, right?

'Kay, so you'll need

~hair that at least comes to your shoulders. mine's a couple inches past my shoulders, plus it's in layers so it sort of falls apart at the front, but it works to get it off my neck

~one chopstick, hair stick, pen, pencil, crochet hook, knitting needle, um, toothbrush? etc.

 Here it is as a more messy, casual style (w/ a ton of hair falling out...).

 Neater version:

{Please excuse the fact that I'm obviously in my pajamas and I've just gotten out of the shower}

1) Put your hair up in a ponytail and hold it with your left hand.

2) Take your stick with your right hand and insert it underneath the top layer of hair with the point. So you're sliding it into the top layer of hair into your ponytail from right to left, point-first.

3) Pull the ponytail up and behind your stick--wrap it around.

4) Now twist the stick clockwise so the point is now facing the other direction, with your right hand. When you twist it like this, you will feel that you've created a loop.

5) Flip the stick around by lifting the non-sharp side, which should be on the left, and pushing the sharp side into your hair till it pokes out of the center of your loop.

You're done. Usually it stays put like this for a while. Thanks for reading!
